# TeenyWriter (小小作家) > 小学生中文日记写作伴侣 — A Chinese diary-writing companion for primary school students. TeenyWriter helps kids (grades 1–6) practice Chinese diary writing through a four-step loop: voice recording, AI rewriting, handwriting on grid paper, and photo-based grading. Free, no account required, privacy-first. Made by Built4.Fun (为乐而造) — a small studio making small things for joy. Website: https://writer.built4.fun/ App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6761878294 Contact: happinesz+teenywriter@gmail.com Studio: https://built4.fun/ --- ## How it works 1. **Voice recording**: Kids hold the mic button and talk about their day 2. **AI rewriting**: The app rewrites their words into a grade-appropriate diary entry, preserving original ideas and explaining all changes 3. **Handwriting**: Kids copy the diary onto a real grid notebook, guided by an on-screen template 4. **Photo grading**: Take a photo of the handwritten page; AI reads the handwriting and gives concrete, encouraging feedback ## Key features - Completely free — no ads, no tracking, no account, no subscription, no in-app purchases - Offline-first: voice recognition runs entirely on-device (Apple Speech framework) - Recordings never leave the phone; audio is deleted after transcription by default - Photos: only a compressed 512px copy (EXIF stripped) is sent for cloud grading, then discarded - Parent zone protected by a two-digit addition problem - Supports grades 1–6 with age-appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure - Optional offline AI mode (lower quality but zero network dependency) ## Platform - iOS / iPadOS only - App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6761878294 --- ## Support & FAQ Contact: happinesz+teenywriter@gmail.com (48-hour response) ### "Generating diary" spinner won't stop? AI rewriting needs internet. Check Wi-Fi/cellular, go back to home, and tap "Generate today's diary" again. Or enable offline mode in Parent Settings > Cloud Off. ### "This doesn't look like today's diary" after taking a photo? The AI detected a mismatch between the photo and the current diary. Common causes: photographed a different page, only captured part of the page, or poor lighting/glare. Tap "Take another photo" to retry without losing the diary. ### Can kids write in their own words instead of copying exactly? Yes, encouraged. TeenyWriter detects whether the child copied or paraphrased. Writing the same topic in their own words earns positive feedback on their original expression, plus one gentle suggestion. ### How to enter the parent zone? Tap the gear icon (top-left on home screen). Answer a two-digit addition problem (e.g., "36 + 47 = ?") to enter — designed so young children can't easily bypass it. ### Are voice recordings uploaded? Never. Speech recognition runs entirely on-device via Apple's Speech framework. The audio file never leaves the phone. By default, recordings are deleted after diary generation succeeds. Retention can be changed in Parent Settings > Recording Retention (options: immediate delete, 7 days, 30 days, keep forever). ### Are photos uploaded? Only a compressed copy (max 512px, JPEG 80%, EXIF metadata including GPS stripped) is sent for OCR and grading, then immediately discarded on the server. The original 1280px copy stays on the phone only. Cloud grading can be disabled entirely in Parent Settings > Cloud Off. ### Can I change the child's grade level? Yes. Enter parent zone > Basic Info > select new grade. Next diary will use the new grade's vocabulary and sentence patterns. ### Can I export or print diaries? Not yet — viewing history is in-app only. Export/print coming in a future update. Email us if you need this urgently. ### Forgot the parent zone math answer? The problem is randomly generated each time. If you get it wrong, a new problem appears. All problems are two-digit addition — take your time. --- ## Privacy Policy (隐私政策) Effective date: April 17, 2026 This privacy policy is written for parents of primary school students.
